I have to say I only give this book 3 stars. While I am all for a Sci Fi Zombie type of story this one had too many things I did not like. The Author had a great story idea yet for me it was not delivered in the best way. I give 3 stars as perhaps for someone else who likes chaotic books they will like it. I also gave it 3 stars as it was grammatically correct so that was a plus.
First:
WHY was everything in the beginning? While reading on my kindle in the iPhone 15 I had-
Contents & Triggers (5 pages)
Posters/pics (15 pages)
Authors notes (7 pages)
Glossaries (17 pages)
FOR A GRAND TOTAL OF 44 pages in kindle phone format BEFORE START OF BOOK! This was exhausting. Some of that could have gone to the back.
Second:
While I speak Spanish there are many who don’t and it would be very difficult to memorize the glossary before starting the book. So EACH time you want to know what they said you had to go back to the front and look up the little number. STOPPING your flow of reading. Really? If you don’t do this you simply had to guess what they say as it is not referenced in English at all.
Third:
Once the book got going there would be memories thrown in. At first, for the first 1/4 of the book, they were helpful and gave insight. Yet as the book went on they were random memories that threw off the flow of the story. It seemed as the book went on the memories were just randomly thrown in even more.
Finally:
By the end of Part II I was done. I felt that the story had wrapped up and with all I had not liked I was ok with this. However, there was a Part III! This part threw me as it was out of left field. Maybe that is what the author wanted. The time flow was all over the place, the memories were even more random, it jumped person to person points of view, and it discussed stuff not even dealt with. I got a sense the author wanted to tie it all together, to explain the ‘pandemic’, or ‘infection’. For me it was very difficult to read and I forced myself to skim it to the end. By the end I had no more knowledge than at the end of Part II.
For me, this was not a story that I enjoyed reading and I really had high hopes for it as the theme is right up my alley.
