Witches, apple orchards, a cute baby goat, magic, three animated children, and a small town I would LOVE to live in! The author, Danika Brown, has done an exceptional job in creating this sweet, romantic, magic oriented book. This is the second book in the Brim’s Hollow set yet is a stand alone book. Each book so far explores different characters in the small town.
Honey Braxton is the main female character and she works for the Bureau of Magical Compliance as an auditor. She lives in an apartment in the city and lives a solitary life that includes work, sleep, and occasional time with her neighbor Rose. Honey starts the story lonely yet doesn’t even realize it. She is busy at work and is aiming for a promotions she has always wanted at work. Her life is what she always wanted, yet was it?
Ethan Hale is a single father living in the quirky and loveable small town of Brims Hollow with his three daughters. Emma is the oldest, Brooke is the middle child, and Melly who is the youngest. Add in a farm, with an apple orchard, an adorable baby goat named Pickles, a variety of farm animals, and an overused magic wishing well. His life is non-stop and he never has time to breathe. He thinks he is holding his head above water with no help from anyone else, yet is he?
I fell in love with the book from the first chapter as it opened with Honey. The pace was well done and by the end of Chapter 1 Honey was set to go to Brims Hollow. The interactions between her and Ethan, as well as her, the children, Pickles, and the other variety of animals were hilarious! I loved how the story arc moved at a nice pace and had humor, romance, angst, and mystery weaved in. This book is really NOT about the magic. It is about Honey’s growth and acceptance that there is more in life and that she deserves to be loved. About Ethan’s growth as he realizes there is more to life than just trying to survive, and as he learns to love and trust again. And, about a small town full of quirky people that grows to accept someone new into their midst.
This book is small town, with a little magic, at it’s best! Read it when it comes out April 14th!
I received a free copy of this book as an ARC and am voluntarily leaving a review.
