I had some time before my next ARC and decided to read a book from my HUGE ‘To Read’ list. I chose the book SHIFT which was published in 2015. I give this book 5 stars and will be reading the rest of the series as soon as I can.
Imagine the nerves like elephants in your stomach as you start your Freshman year at college. A roommate you barely know. Wondering if people will like you, will you make friends, are the classes going to be hard, etc. , etc. THEN add in the fact that you change into a WEREWOLF that very first week! Well this is what happens to Mackenzie Grey.
This book is the first in the series and covers the beginning of Mackenzie’s life as a werewolf. The book details the first shift and then switches to her Senior year in college. Kenz, as she likes to be called by her family and friends, is a Criminal Justice major and is also an intern at the local Police Department. Her freshman roommate, Amy, is now her best friend and the only one who knows what she is. They live in an off campus apartment.
One night Mackenzie cuts it drastically close, racing to get back to the apartment in the full moon, and as she is racing back in agony she literally runs into a very large, very handsome man. This starts the beginning of her introduction into the local Werewolf population.
One thing is for sure and that is that Mackenzie does NOT like the patriarchal society of the Werewolves. Be a Luna? Ummm, NO! She will not bend to their rules. Yet can she avoid them? Will they force her into it? And what about the recent kidnappings in the city that are tied into all of this? Can anything else go wrong?
Read this fun, quick, and engaging start to Mackenzie’s life as a werewolf as she starts her journey into who and what she really is!
