Cooper James wrote another GREAT book! This is part Two of ‘The Shattered Veil’ Series. I will state right off that while I loved it and the ongoing story of the main characters I did feel it is a slower paced book than the first. Now don’t get upset at me! Slower paced books can still be exceptional! However, when I receive an ARC I hope that the book has gone through beta and editing stages so that I can be free to read and enjoy. However, there were enough ‘notes’ that I made that they kept taking me out of the world of Scion Academy. This is the main reason that I give it 4 stars versus 5+ like the last book. However, don’t you worry! I know that all will be fixed and that WHEN you read this book, and you WILL want to read this book, all will be fixed and it will magically flow!

Now, I must recommend that you read Book 1 first. While Cooper James does a wonderful job reemerging us into the world with a review of the ending, as well as snippets of memories throughout, I feel that your journey should begin with book 1. This book is the continuation of Annalise Corvin, or Lee as she likes to be called by her friends. She is now finishing up her time at Scion Academy and preparing for her life afterwards. With her is her best friend Matt Reyes as well as all her friends from Book 1. This book is emotional so be prepared for some tissues! Lee must face demons from her past as well as face the horror that happened at the end of Book 1. Can she do it and stay strong? Will she lose herself in the grief, anxiety, depression, and self-loathing? Or will she rise again to be stronger than ever before? Her battle tears at your emotions and makes you want to jump in there and help her at times and scream at her at other times.

Playing a bigger role in Lee’s life in this book is Hunter Korr, one of Lee’s instructors’ at the Academy. Korr opens his house and his life to Lee and her friends to help Lee out. Is he helping her because he feels guilty? Because he believes in her as a cadet? Because he was ordered to by her friends? WHAT! Cadets ordering him around? What is the world coming to? Or, is he doing it because of something more, something real that even he can’t ignore?

READ this book and find out what is building up in the world of Scion Academy! Yet be prepared to scream at the end for just like Book 1, Book 2 ends on a cliffhanger. It will leave your imagination running full stream ahead with all kinds of ideas on what is really happening. This alone is a magnificent skill of Cooper James’, to write REMARKABLE cliffhangers making you want to jump into the book and force it to continue!!
