5 STARS!! (or in this case 5 Cherry Trees!)

This was the first book for children that I have formally reviewed since I started this in January 2026 and I must say I am glad I waited for it! Carson Hughes does an AMAZING job creating a story that is exciting, has rich characters, and enthralling descriptions to make young readers use their imaginations. There are wonderful sketches, as if drawn by the main character herself, in the book as well for those children who still need some visual help to jumpstart their imaginations, and for the rest of us to enjoy. This book is written from the Point Of View (POV) of the Main Character and it kept me as an adult reader glued to my chair and I read it in one sitting. It truly was as if the book was written from the mind of a 10-year-old child!

The Main Female Character in the book is Charlie, or Charlie Joanne when she is about to get in trouble, and she is a 10-year-old girl living in a small farmhouse on a cherry tree farm that borders a large forested area. Charlie lives with her Mother, Father, Grandmother and her Grandfather and she is extremely close to all of them. We also can’t forget Scott the Horse lives there as well!

This book takes the place in the summer Charlie turns 10 and she is starting to push for even more independence and control over her actions. Charlie is impulsive, curious, and can rationalize any situation to make it fit the way she wants it to. Just like all 10-year-old children do! I mean what trouble could she get into on a cherry tree farm that borders the woods? Really, children NEVER do impulsive, rash, stupid, crazy things, right?

Read this book and feel the warmth of the family’s love, enjoy the mind and actions of Charlie, and enjoy the hint of magic woven throughout. You and your children will love this wonderful book!

I received a free copy of this book as an ARC and am voluntarily leaving a review.
